چکیده

Culture is the only reliable method available at present for the diagnosis of melioidosis. Though serological tests have been described, their value in routine diagnosis is controversial. All indirect immunofluorescent assay (IFA) was therefore evaluated to determine its use in the diagnosis of melioidosis. Whole cell antigen prepared from a laboratory isolate of Burkholderia pseudomallei was used to assay IgG and IgM antibodies. Fourteen of the 22 (63.6%) culture proven cases had IgM antibodies while only 10 (45.5%) had IgG antibodies. Negative predictive value of IgM assay was 92 per cent. Positive predictive value was 100 per cent if both IgM and IgG were considered together. The present study done on a limited number of samples suggests that IFA may be useful in routine diagnosis of melioidosis.

Relationship and significance of specific immunoglobulin M antibody response in clinical and subclinical melioidosis.

Thirty-six hospitalized patients with circulating antibody to pseudomonas pseudomallei were classified as having either clinical or subclinical melioidosis after full clinical examinations and supplementary radiological and culture investigations. Qualitative estimations of immunoglobulin M (IgM) antibody response were determined by complement fixation, indirect hemagglutination, and immunofluo...

Immunofluorescence microscopy for the rapid diagnosis of melioidosis.

A direct immunofluorescent antibody test (DIF) was developed for the rapid diagnosis of melioidosis, a potentially fatal infection caused by Pseudomonas pseudomallei. In a clinical evaluation of 369 sputum, pus, or urine specimens from 272 patients with suspected melioidosis, the DIF had a sensitivity of 73% and a specificity of 99% compared with culture. Using this DIF, a confident diagnosis o...

EVALUATION OF INDIRECT IMMUNOFLUORESCENT TEST AND CD4/CD8 RATIO IN CANDIDIASIS

In order to study and evaluate the indirect immunofluorescent test and the ratio of CD41ymphocytes to CD8 lymphocytes, 97 cases of positive candida cultures were selected from among 400 patients referring to the hospital and suspected of candidiasis. In this study 39% of the patients had an antibody titer less than 1: 160 No significant correlation was seen between canclidiasis and the resu...

Rapid immunofluorescence microscopy for diagnosis of melioidosis.

An immunofluorescent (IF) method that detects Burkholderia pseudomallei in clinical specimens within 10 min was devised. The results of this rapid method and those of an existing IF method were prospectively compared with the culture results for 776 specimens from patients with suspected melioidosis. The sensitivities of both IF tests were 66%, and the specificities were 99.5 and 99.4%, respect...

Background: Different methods have been used for characterization of Leishmania promastigotes. Monoclonal antibodies are useful in characterization of   Leishmania spp . both amastogotes and promastigotes. Objective: Comparing the characterization of   Leishmania spp. promastigotes with immunoperoxidase test (Avidin-Biotin) techniques and an indirect immunofluorescent assay (IFA).   Methods: Ap...
